Assistant Principal's Message

Happy New Year, McGarvin Owls!

As we kick off the new year, I am excited to be joining the McGarvin Community as the Assistant Principal.  I’ve had the privilege of serving this community for six years as a Teacher on Special Assignment, and know that I am joining an exceptional  community of educators, students, and families.  I am honored to join this community once again and look forward to supporting the great work already in place.

I am also committed to our district’s vision and mission of supporting students in both academic achievement and social-emotional well-being, so that there will be rich and diverse opportunities for them once they graduate.  At McGarvin, students develop both academically and socio-emotionally through instruction and programs that cultivate and strengthen their skills in academics, athletics, technology, as well as visual and performing arts.  For example, McGarvin’s S.T.E.A.M program continues to thrive, as do the many clubs and extended learning opportunities, such as Writer’s Workshop, Homework Club, Cooking, and Hip Hop classes.

Notably, as an award-winning PBIS Gold School, students demonstrate what it means to BE W.I.S.E (*Welcoming *Improving Everyday *Socially Aware *Ethical) through every interaction with adults and peers on campus.  Students learn and practice these valuable traits in order to ensure that McGarvin is a safe and great place to learn. Please ask your student how they were W.I.S.E at school each day!

The success and well-being of our staff and students relies on an energetic partnership between the school and its community.  As an opportunity for partnership, we invite all parents to join our monthly PTSO meetings, as well as our quarterly Health and Safety meetings.  We welcome any time you may have available to be a part of a McGarvin committee or event.

Communication remains key, and as an Administrative team, we will ensure that parents and community members are updated on the most current school and district events.  We will continue to utilize Parent Square, our Electronic Marquee, and the McGarvin website to communicate with families regularly.  Additionally, we welcome phone calls, emails, or visits and look forward to cultivating a positive partnership with you.

Thank you all for your welcome and support, and we look forward to a fantastic 2020 ahead!

Sincerely,

Allie Bak
